Anitqua | Santiago Atitlan | Guatemala | January 14 – 22, 2012
Arrive in Guatemala City Airport Saturday afternoon or evening January 14th. There, you will be met by a friendly driver and taken to the beautiful colonial city of La Anitgua to settle into your room and rest up. You’ll begin meeting the rest of your fellow travelers that evening at a welcome dinner. Then the real fun begins Sunday morning when we’ll meet half the students on board a comfortable coach and depart for our scenic 3 hour journey to Santiago Atitlan. There we will check in to our rooms at the lovely La Posada de Santiago, and meet the rest of students. That’s when the real fun begins. Working with bright talented kids eager to soak up what we have to give them.
Located in Guatemala’s central highlands, Santiago Atitlan is a colorful Mayan village on the shores of Lake Atitlan, an azure blue caldera, surrounded by 3 dramatic volcanoes. The stunning natural beauty, and rich cultural backdrop make this location an inspiring setting for learning and for creating.
Monday through Friday will be divided into class time in the mornings, and project time in the afternoon. One day in the middle of the week we’ll take a break in the morning for a guided cultural tour of Santiago Atitlan, then resume project work in the afternoon. As a mentor, your presence is always appreciated, but you will be given ample time between classes and during project work to explore, hang out by the pool, or enjoy the use one of the hotel’s bikes or canoes. It’s your vacation, so enjoy it.

Hello! I learned about your organization through Fotokids, and am interested in a future role as a “Globetrotting Mentor.” I spent 30 years in marketing communications as a writer, creative director, account manager and the last 16 years as an owner of an agency. I have taken photography and art classes in Guatemala and travel there frequently to buy for my import store in Michigan. Though I cannot go on your two trips currently scheduled, my store is closed Jan-May, so perhaps there will be an opportunity in that time frame. Thank you and best wishes for success and safety in all you do. Greta Bolger
Hi Greta, thanks for the comment. You sound like the ideal candidate for a Design4Kids workshop. We plan our workshops around the kid’s school calendar, doing two Guatemala workshops a year, one in June, and one in November.
This January’s Honduras workshop is the only date we currently have planned during the Jan – May time frame next year. But it’s possible that we will do Honduras during the same time frame in future years.
All the best,
Jeff Speigner
